Ambassador Ettore Sequi in Front of Students in a Discussion on the Functioning of the EU and the Integration Process of Albania

Ambassador of the European Commission Delegation in Tirana, Ettore Sequi held an open lecture with students of “Hëna e Plotë” (Bedër) University about the European Union's legal system and the functioning of the institutions that make up this union.

Invited as part of the series of lectures "comparative legal systems", organized by the Law Department, Ambassador Sequi said that he was pleased to have the opportunity to communicate with students because they are the future that will decide the country's challenges. Mr. Sequi focused on the importance of the whole system on which the European Union is set, gives law enforcement and transparency as a key factor for democracy.

In his lecture, Mr.. Sequi presented to the students, the main bodies of the union, the Council of the European Union, European Commission, European Parliament and to the European Court of Justice, which is located in Luxembourg. He also spoke on the significance of the Lisbon Treaty as a constitutional framework that gave the solutions to many issues discussed on foreign and security policies of the EU. Mr. Sequi said that he is optimistic about overcoming the crisis involving several EU countries.

According to him the history of the European Union has passed moments of crisis, where euro-skeptics have questioned the existence of the union. He stressed the fact that the support that the EU has given countries economic problems, in addition to helping overcome the crisis of these countries, has made its effects to be felt less in countries like Albania, whose economy is highly associated with Union’s countries.

Meanwhile Ambassador Sequi answered to the questions of the students about the Albania's integration process into the European Union and highlighted that it is not the time to seek the guilty but to focus on the reforms needed for this process. I think we should get used to not seeing things in black and white. The problem is on the fact we are not aware of the benefits that membership brings.

Reforms done by Albania need to be seen as a process that primarily brings prosperity to Albanian people. These reforms are not made to satisfy the European Union
