Conference on "Human Rights in the 21st Century", gather in Tirana Young Researchers from 12 Different Countries

Department of Law at “Hëna e Plotë”(Bedër) University in collaboration with the Faculty of Law at the University of Tirana organized the First International Conference of young researchers in the field of justice with the theme "Human rights in the 21st century".

During the conference, 60 young researchers from 12 different countries and 17 universities around the world have referred the issues and problems related to the issue of human rights. The opening ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the OSCE Ambassador to Albania, Mr.. Eugen Wollfarth, President of the Constitutional Court Bashkim Dedja, and leaders of universities and other personalities in the field of justice.

Vice rector of the “Hëna e Plotë”(Bedër) University, Dr. Ahmet Ecirli (Exhirli), in his speech thanked the participants for participation and expressed the belief that the organization of this conference, the first of its kind in Albania, is an opportunity for young lawyers from different countries to exchange ideas and experience in the discipline, traditions and different perspectives. He said that issues relating to human rights require a commitment of all factors and “Hëna e Plotë”(Bedër) University is pleased to be a promoter in this regard. Human Rights Card will not magically create the culture, awareness and respect for the law. We need institutions that play an important role in the promotion and protection of human rights and to create a culture in this regard. We need a continuing and sustainable national program in the aspect of education about the issues related with human rights, "said Mr.Ahmet Ecirli.

OSCE Ambassador in Albania, Eugen Wolfarth appreciated the contribution and the role of “Hëna e Plotë”(Bedër) University for organizing this conference with a broad participation from different countries of the world. Human rights, according to him constitute a key issue for the OSCE Presence in Albania, and not only. ‘It is a pleasure and honor for me to have the opportunity and the chance to talk to you about a matter so important to dignity life of human beings.” He said.

Present at the opening of the conference, President of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Bashkim Dedja praised the work and initiative of the organizers of this event. He said that issues of human rights are a matter of discussion in many centuries, but they taken a special importance in the 21st century. “I feel appreciated for the invitation and the opportunity for participation in the first conference that has to do with human rights. The agenda of this century evaluates them as inviolable, inalienable and universal. Human rights are a universal challenge though is fought for centuries, although reflecting a series of national and international dynamics of society, raising the possibility of individual rights that they enjoy and that should continue to enjoy make states accountable and competent bodies to improve and enable them to effectively exercise by the individual” said Mr.Dede.

Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Tirana, Dr. Altin Shegani considered the cooperation between the two universities as an innovation in albanian Universities. He expressed confidence that such initiatives will continue in the future. “It is an important moment for both universities. The organization of this conference is a novelty, as both universities open an opportunity for the implementation of European standards in academic research. Organizing conferences of such dimensions is a very good opportunity for young researchers. This is a good example of cooperation and the fact that with good will can have such arrangements” he said.

International Conference of young researchers in the field of Justice entitled "Human Rights in the 21st Century" is the first of its kind organized in Albania and has attracted the attention and interest of about 60 young researchers in 12 different countries world. Participants were referred to various issues and aspects related to human rights, and have shared their experiences.
