The final debate of the Debate Club

The Debate Club and the Department of Communication Sciences at University College Bedër held today the final of the debates.   The debate theme of this finale was "to stay or to leave Albania?" The idea to escape was the first year student group: Samanta Hysa, Sabina Kurtaj from the Public Relations Program and Marketing Communica- tion, and Grisel Alla from the Communication Science Program. While the idea to stay was the second year students of Communication Science: Melsena Danglli, Lirije Myftarago and Lushe Responsible.   The debate was moderated by student Jona Kaso, while arguments and counterarguments by the parties were numerous and often startling.   The match was won with very little margin on the pro-stand in Albania. While both groups were praised at the end of this final for the performance and presentation shown during each stage shown up to the final.   The University College Bedër Debate Club in this academic year had 17 participating groups and students dealt with the most current topics in the field of media, politics, culture, technology and many other aspects of life. This club has been one of the most active at the "Bedër" University College and has served the students to deepen their knowledge, to express their thoughts and approaches, to build a more professional discourse and to create social relationships among students.

Bedër Law students represent Albania at the International Criminal Court in Hague

Bedër University students represent Albania at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.   The Law Students of the University College Bedër represent Albania for the 5th time at the Imitating Trial organized by the University of Leiden, Holland in partnership with the International Criminal Court "ICC" and the International Bar Association "IBA".   The students Anxhela Buzi, Elida Mehhalla, Fioralba Markja, Monika Canana and Olivja Belishaku with the professor Dr. Nertil Bërdufi make up the competitive team in this international competition.   ICCMCC was greeted by Prof. Carsten Stahn, University of Leiden; Prof. Michael Scharf from CWR University, Joe Bell from IBA and ICJ Judge Kimberly Prost.   The International Criminal Court's trial simulation contest will take place on June 2-7, 2019 in The Hague, The Netherlands. This competition welcomes universities from all over the world for a high level of debate, simulating the proceedings of the International Criminal Court. The competition consists of a packed educational and social program of six days bringing together students from different backgrounds and cultures in The Hague to challenge their skills as future international advocates.   The final round is expected to take place in a courtroom with a concrete panel of the International Criminal Court.   The competition involves co-operation with judges from international courts, professors of international law (criminal) and other legal professionals. This network makes the contest a realistic simulation of the hearings held at the International Criminal Court. The competition issues address the fundamental issues of International Criminal Law as both procedural and substantive.   70 teams from 55 different countries of the world are listed in the 2019 edition of the International Criminal Court Judicial Contest Contest. For the first time, there is also a representative team from Russia.   Supporting students in activities at home and abroad and training them to compete with their colleagues around the world is one of the top priorities of Bedër University.

Youth Center Perspective, workshop with students on photography

The Photo Club at Bedër in cooperation with the Youth Center Perspective organized a training on photography within the project "Hate Fighters in Action". This project, which is supported by the Erasmus + Youth Capacity Building Program, will organize a series of activities for young people in partner countries and the program, including Bedër, to strengthen the role of youth in peace and the fight against hate speech using creative methods. In this workshop, 27 students were trained who learned about photography, using the camera and images in support of peace messages and hate speech. At the end of the training students are provided with certificates.

"Hope oasis" club distributed food packages for 40 families in need

The students of the "Oasis Hope" club distributed food packages for 40 families in need in the Tirana area. This is just one of the initiatives undertaken by this club, where students engage in providing assistance and support to families in need. WHERE Bedr thanks all the donors who give their contribution to these students of the initiative.

The Institute of Religious Freedom and Democracy successfully concludes

The Institute of Religious Freedom and Democracy closed today the 3 day training program with students from 8 different universities in the country.   In its third day, the first part of the program was developed in the form of a discussion panel where the guests were Prof. Dr. Gjergj Sinani, from University of Tirana who spoke about the topic "Freedom, Human Rights and Democracy"; Dr. Enri Hide, from European University of Tirana with the topic of discussion "Freedom of Religion and Religious Radicalization" and Dr. Genti Kruja, from Bedër University College who spoke on the history of interreligious dialogue in Albania.   The second panel of discussion focused on legal issues on religious freedom and democracy. The invited were Renata Tokrri,from University of Durres Alexander Moisiu, who spoke on the topic "Dualistic Approach to Freedom of Religion in Democratic Societies" and Msc. Bledar Uku, from Bedër University College on "His Rights and Protection in Democratic Society".   The program continued with group work and presentation of projects by participating students, on state-religion relations in countries like USA, France and Austria, interreligious dialogue in Albania, and freedom of belief and expression.   The 30 students participating in this program were awarded certificates as participants in the Institute of Religious Freedom and Democracy, organized by Bedër University College and H. Ali Korça Foundation, with the support of the Public Affairs Office at the US Embassy in Tirana.

The second day of the Institute of Religious Freedom and Democracy

The Institute for Religious Freedom and Democracy continued its work on its second day with trainings, discussions and visits to institutions and objects of cults.   Today's program was opened with a panel discussion on the topic: "Religion, Freedoms and Democracy", in which guests were Dr. Geore Gaitanos in charge of the Department of Social Theology, Logos; Don Arjan Add the Vicar General of the Diocese of Tirana-Durrës and Dr. Atakan Derelioglu lecturer at the Department of Islamic Sciences, Beder.   Dr. Geore Gaitanos spoke about the perspective of the Orthodox Church in Religious Freedom and Democracy, and on the importance of human dignity by which man holds moral and legal responsibility.   "The source of religion is conscience," said Mr. Arjan Add, in his speech on the Catholic Church's Perspective on Religious Freedom and Democracy. He emphasized that every person is capable of knowing the faith.   While Dr. Atakan Derelioglu on his topic on the Perspective of Islam on Religious Freedom and Democracy expressed that cultural diversity is as necessary as human diversity in nature. "The Qur'an recognizes diversity as something necessary and advises us to behave well with others and to show respect for them." - said Mr. Derelioğlu.   The program continued with a student visit to the Center for Combating Violence and Extremism, the Catholic Cathedral and the Orthodox Diocese Durrës-Tirana.

The three-day program of the Institute for Religious Freedom and Democracy starts

The Institute for Religious Freedom and Democracy, organized by Bedër University College and the H. Ali Korça Foundation, with the support of the Public Relations Office at the US Embassy in Tirana, opened today the works of the three-day program, where participants are students from different universities in our country.   At the opening ceremony, which was held at  University Collage Beder , attended by personalities from different fields, who appreciated the necessity of such initiatives, where the focus is placed on young people.   In the opening speech, the Rector of  Bedër, Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Gjana thanked the participants who responded to the invitation, and praised the support provided by the US State Department for such initiatives. Prof. Gjana stressed that religious harmony in Albania is a relief for all the wounds that our society faces today. He stressed the fact that Albania has resolved on time issues related to dialogue and religious freedom, thus becoming an example for other European countries and beyond.   Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Albania, Prof. Vasilika Hysi appealed to the young people present, that they are the ones who can contribute more to say no hate speech, promoting the best models. "Education is the best way to say no to the phenomena that incite hatred and war", emphasized Ms. Hysi, promising that the Albanian Parliament will work harder to draft better laws and provide sufficient budgets for good education. She invited the young people present at the Institute for Religious Freedom and Democracy at a parliamentary hearing to promote the best models of interreligious harmony and dialogue.   President of the "H. Ali Korça ", Skender Bruçaj, in his speech focused on the right to freedom of belief and exercise. "According to the Islamic faith, God has left us free to choose faith, based on conscience," he said. Brucaj, adding that in religion there is no obligation to select trust.   The United States Embassy's Human Rights Officer, Ian Crawford, reminded those present that for five hundred years, Albanians, Muslims and Christians, have coexisted in harmony. "It was not just tolerance to one another; you have loved and respected one another. For half a millennium, you have been an example of interreligious relations not only in the region, but also in the world, "said Mr. Crawford.   Deputy Minister of Justice, Toni Gogu, left the idea of ​​cooperation between the students of theology, to contribute to the increase of the role of the family. "We like Albanians the things we have to appreciate. Where necessary, we should also intervene for improvements, "emphasized Mr. Gog, adding that the right to trust is inalienable and man is born with him.   The works continued with the announcements of other guests. Before the students, Loreta Aliko, Chair of the Cults Committee; z. Agron Sojati, director of the Center for Combating Violence and Extremism; z. Besnik Mustafaj, former Foreign Minister.   The Institute for Religious Freedom and Democracy will continue its work for the next two days, where besides discussions and trainings with well-known scholars of the field, activities are also foreseen to recognize the values ​​of religious harmony in Albania, as well as visits to clay objects in Tirana.

"Pasqyra e t'rrëfyemit" magazine, presented in Beder

Department of Communication Sciences, held a meeting with the publisher and writer Behar Gjoka.   The meeting was held in the framework of the presentation of the cultural magazine "Pasqyra e t'rrëfyemit" published by the Center for Literary Studies "Pjetër Budi".   Mr. Gjoka presented the next issue of the magazine, which was entirely devoted to the lyric poet Frederik Rreshpja. This magazine number summarizes the proceedings of the Conference devoted to Rreshpes, organized by the Center for Literary Studies "Pjetër Budi".   Discussions centered on the role the reader has to grasp and build meaning in relation to text; literature as a sign, art or communication tool; its criticism and its role in the development of literature.   Mrs. Gjoka emphasized the role of criticism in discovering new writers, orientation in reading as well as for the development of culture as a whole. He further focused on the current state of the cultural press in our country, addressing issues and opportunities.   Then the discussions continued between the students and Mr. Gjoka, on the expectations of Albanian literature and on the importance of reading, as well as the role played by journalism of culture in audience orientation.
